CHUG Grants
Posted on March 18, 2016Do you live, work or study near Hackney’s canals? Do you have a project to do with the canal or its wildlife—or an idea for one—that needs financial support?
CHUG is looking for local projects to support with grants of up to £2,000. These might be smaller projects that require support in the region of £200 to £500, or major projects at the higher end of the scale.
CHUG is particularly interested in:
- • projects that promote the use and enjoyment of the canals in Hackney
- • projects that support the canal’s wildlife and greenery, and enable it to thrive
- • creative, intelligent and well-organised projects for all ages
- • projects that are collaborative in approach
- • education projects
CHUG will make the securing and management of grants as simple and straightforward as possible; however, there are certain requirements:
- • projects must be completed not more than 12 months from the date of the award
- • funding milestones will be set on a case-by-case basis according to the nature and requirements of the project, with a percentage of the grant to be given at the outset, a percentage on completion and agreed regular amounts to be paid through the project
- • progress will be reviewed at regular intervals throughout the project by two or more members of CHUG
- • written proof of the use of funds will be required, in the form of receipts, reports from the organiser/s or other as requested by CHUG
How to apply for a grant.
There is no deadline for applications, which will be assessed in the order in which they are received.
There is no set format for applications, though each must present the following:
- • name of project
- • brief description: What is it and how would it work?
- • what is it about the project that excites you?
- • how would it impact on the canal and who would benefit most from the project?
- • what is the life of the project? How long would the results last?
- • any imagery that would help illustrate the project and bring it to life for CHUG?
- • outline budget
- • why should CHUG fund the project?
- • would CHUG be the only funder; if not, who else would support the project? (CHUG would not want to be associated with co-funders that clashed with its objectives and ethos.)

We look forward to hearing from you!
